Becoming an Eagle Scout is a long and difficult procedure. The newest one is Joshua S. Jackson of Seminole troop 340. He planted 159 trees in a section of the Lake Seminole shoreline.
Chapter 14 has been involved with a presentation to those who achieve this rank. There are hundreds of thousands of Boy Scouts in the USA but only about four percent ever attain the rank of Eagle Scout. A certificate depicting those involved in the Korean War and a specially made medal designed and produced only by Chapter 14 KWVA is also awarded.
Gordon Barrow, a Canadian Major from Chapter 14, & Harold Macking, the current Sec. of the chapter made the presentation.
Major Barrow spoke of the picture on the certificate and how the scout motto of, Be Prepared, was very important to those front line fighters in Korea. The point man was vulnerable to land mines and the soldier in the rear could be shot at any time. These facts are well known to those who were there however not to most civilians, it was interesting.
